E-TEAM Tokyo 2007 Report
Tuesday, July 17, 2007
The 2007 Tokyo E-team comprised nine high
school students and two adult sponsors from
eight U.S. states. They experienced riding
trains (some quite crowded!) subways, and
buses; visiting many of Tokyo’s famous
sites; and tasting new and different foods.
More importantly, though, the group ministered
in all three Tokyo area F.W.B. churches and
experienced many ways of doing ministry in the
sprawling urban mass of humanity called Tokyo.
This year’s team accomplished tract distribution in all three churches. The team’s powerful pantomime of Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross was utilized in two of the Tokyo churches, moving Japanese believers to tears in the testimonies that followed. They were also able to visit Japanese elementary and high school classrooms, interacting with the students and singing a portion of their program in one of the classrooms. Every team member also shared in area English classes, Gospel choir rehearsal, and traditional Japanese tea ceremony, affording opportunity to make friendships and to impact the classes for Christ. Ministry was also accomplished in a dramatic personal method as each e-team member was able to experience an overnight Japanese homestay. Not only did this result in a first hand experience of over-the-top Japanese hospitality, but also left the team members with a sober reminder of the lostness of such warm and friendly contacts.
No team ever leaves the Tokyo area without being impacted by the sheer numbers of Japanese who are so blinded to, and ignorant of the message of the Gospel. The constant sight of shrines dotting the highways contrasted to the absence of churches leaves its mark on a heart tender for God. This year was no exception. We trust that the time spent here will have not only touched their hearts for the need of taking the Gospel to Asia, but will touch many others stateside as they share what great things God did for them in one of the world’s greatest cities.
